Bison has given the United Nations 3 days and he threatens to kill the hostages if the United Nations fails to pay the ransom. Learning his best friend, Carlos "Charlie" Blanka is one of the hostages, U.N military commanding officer Colonel William F. Guile leads his army of troops against M. Bison. But Guile isn't the only man after M. Bison. Guile sends low-life martial artists Ryu and Ken Masters to infiltrate M. Bilson's one-eyed arms dealer Victor Sagat and his masked Spanish cage fighter Vega and discover the location of M. Bison's jungle fortress. News journalist Chun-Li Zang and her crew, former boxer Balrog and former sumo-wrestler Edmond Honda are out to settle their scores with M. Bison. M. Bison's unwilling chief scientist Dr. Dhalsim is transforming Blanka into a genetic mutated super soldier, in M. Bison's goal for world domination. Joined by martial artists and fighters from around the world, Guile and his troops engage in combatthey set out to defeat the evil warlord and rescue the hostages from his jungle fortress, before the 72 hours up,Guile and M. Bison faces off in the ultimate showdown.
Based on the popular video game, "Street Fighter II". Dictator M. Bison holds Allied Nation relief workers for ransom. Colonel William F. Guile leads his troops into battle against him. Chun-Li, Balrog and E. Honda are a news crew seeking revenge on Sagat. and his lackey, Vega. Ryu and Ken are two low-rent shysters who get caught in the middle between sides. Zangief and Dee Jay kiss up to Bison, who holds Dr. Dhalsim hostage to create Blanka, a genetic warrior. Cammy and T. Hawk second Guile.
OK right from the start I'm watching the popgun scene and immediately thinking "Jackie Chan" and "Chris Tucker". A stupid scene that was contrived to introduce the Ryu and Ken characters. Now in every other media that I have seen regarding Street Fighter (the game, the anime, the comics) these characters are rather complicated and are normally handled with care. They really don't come off correctly"goofballs". So I hated this interpretation of them. Van Damme was COMPLETELY miscastGuile. With his accent there was no way he could have pulled it off. Guile's character is supposed to be the gung-ho all American G.I. Joe type. He doesn't even look like the video game character. They could have at least given him the big brush cut and the green fatigues. Sagat looked like an old man. Again…to the casting director…have you even looked at the video game character? He's freakin' huge. He's virtually all muscle. How can you miss things like that? Mr. Julia didn't fair much better, although I like himan actor he just could not pull this off. Bison is a TOTAL psychopath, Julia gave it his best shot but really fell short. He doesn't particularly fill out the uniform either. The action was also too slow to do justice to the characters. Perhaps they should have thought about enhancing the speed. As for the other characters, I think there were just too many to build upon. I found it familiar to Mortal Kombat Annhilation where they were introducing SO many characters that it was hard to keep them straight. In summation, I didn't really care for ANY of the characters but Vega and Zangief were probably the best cast even though they were still misused.<br/><br/>Nowfor the plot, I still really don't know what the plot was aside from Bison taking over the world. Bison was dressed upHugh Heffner in one scene…maybe that was the plot…hard to tell.<br/><br/>Things that stuck out: 1. Most of the extras were wearing red uniforms…how convenient 2. "The pilot…would have to be…out of his mind…". Come on, I'm no actor and I can deliver the line better than this. 3. Bat boat…"stealth mode detected"…hmmm not very stealthy 4. "This is the collection agency…your ass is six months overdue". Ouch…good line Van Damme…who wrote this little gem? 5. Took Chun Li 20 years to get this far? Wow, that is one long case. I probably would have given up after 5. And she's been allowed to expense things for that long? Must be a government job. 6. DNA mutagens? Anabolic Plasma? Sounds like good watching. 7. Prison escape? Classic. Always needed in a movie with weak characters and story and everything else. 8. "They will talk…or they will…die". 9. Incredible Hulk Paint…where do I get this?
Wow. Bad. Avoid.<br/><br/>You'd have to be a fool to even consider, you must have read the reviews and heard the slating, this film has not received an inch of good press since it was released, and is quite possibly one of the best known flops around. Look at the cast in disbelief, even Raoul Julia died soon after, I don't blame him, still, he's in a better place now.<br/><br/>A testament to bad film-making everywhere, you'd be better off putting broken up pieces of bread into your DVD player than touch this worthless rubbish. Marketing executives do not make good producers, this is a disgrace to the Streetfighter name and deserves to be jettisoned into space next time we send someone up there, its crappiness might just save us from a Martian invasion,

Due to the low rating the British BBFC 12 Version was censored in several action scenes: the breaking of bones is missing and some fighting moveswell. In a fight with a guard, bags of liquid marked "DNA mutagens use extreme caution" are accidentally spilled on him.
